Over the months and years you’ve had your iPhone, it has accumulated a lot of data, some of which are unnecessary. You may even have downloaded apps you never use.
The first step is to find the culprit.
You can see that from Settings > General > Storage
Once you’re able to see which application is the cause of your full memory then you can do the next painful step: Delete. In the sample photo to the right, you can see that music alone is taking up 1.5GB of space already. If your iPhone’s memory is only up to 16GB then you know that this is already a big chunk of space used. The best way to address this is to allot some time to sit yourself down in front of your iTunes and delete songs you never listen to anymore. This may be limiting but once you click on Sync and see the amount of space freed then you’ll feel even better.

Keep Messages on iphone

Almost always, there are items in our settings that cause our phones to store more information than what we need. An example of this is our settings for Messages. The factory settings of your iPhone are set to keep messages forever. Make sure to disable this setting.
Another setting you should watch out for is your iPhone’s camera settings. If you use your phone’s HDR mode or Instagram, you probably noticed that your phone automatically saves two photos: the original shot and the HDR or Instagram filtered shot. This can easily be disabled. Doing so will not only save you space but it will make your phone’s gallery look more clean rather than seeing two photos of the same shot.

Similar to the browser on your computer, your phone’s browser also stores cache, passwords, history and website data. If you use your phone often to access the Internet then it’s important to clear your browser’s history and website data.
This can be accessed from Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data

Bonus:
If these three tips still doesn’t do the trick then you need reinforcement in the form of a 3rd party app that will help delete junk files. An example of this PhoneClean, all you need to do is download the software on your computer, connect your phone and let the application do its thing. It might take some time but with a little patience, you’ll finally get that extra space for more photos and videos on your phone.
