The social networking giant just confirmed its Facebook Messenger has now reached 800 million monthly active users. The last time the company released such stats was about six months ago and during that time, it reported a user base of more than 700 million users. According to these stats, the chat app has gained more than 100 million users in a period beginning July 2015. This makes the app the second most used across the globe after WhatsApp, which is also owned by Facebook.

Facebook Messenger was reported to be among the fastest growing applications in the just ended year, but this figure was only affecting the United States. According to the research firm Nielsen, Messenger recorded a growth of 31% in its users over the past one year, something that no other platform managed over the same period.
Facebook has Over 1.55 billion Global Users
Facebook is currently home to more than 1.5 billion people from all corners of the world. The service is available on mobile devices as well as on the web. It is believed that the Facebook app is actually the most used platform, but there is no doubt that Messenger has its own share of the market as well.
Messenger was separated from the main Facebook app back in 2014 and ever since then, things have been marvelous for the chat app. The idea of adding new and better features and services to the platform has played a huge role in the upward trend its user base growth is showing.
Despite the fact that Facebook has such a huge following across the globe, not all of them have jumped onto the Messenger bandwagon. However, this is probably because the latter has yet to reach all the platforms that are accessible to the former. At the moment, Facebook Messenger is only available on Android, iOS, Windows Phone as well as the web.
On the other hand, App Annie reveals that Latin Americans prefer using WhatsApp to Facebook Messenger, which is actually the opposite when it comes to the U.S. WhatsApp is also very popular across all parts of the world, but Facebook Messenger is most popular in the United States.
Facebook has been working hard to make the app distinct and unique, thanks to the integration with services such as Uber, Facebook M as well as Facebook Payments for sending money to friends as well as making payments right from within the app.
Now that Messenger is being followed by more than half of those on the main app, there is no doubt that the monetization process will soon be kicking off.
